Sushmita Sen, the name created history in the year 1994, winning the most prestigious beauty pageant title ‘Miss Universe’! She was the first Indian woman to win this title, and thus made India proud! Do you know, what was her answer at the final round of Miss Universe? when she was questioned about the essence of the woman? She said, “The origin of a child is a mother, a woman. She shows a man what sharing, caring, and loving is all about. That is the essence of a woman.”  That essence of motherhood she proved with adopting two daughters Renee and Alisah, and she is proud single mother!

Sushmita has broken all the norms of getting married first and then be a mother! She was 25, when she adopted her first daughter, Renee. It was not an easy task as she has to fought legal battle for Renee’s custody.  The bold beauty didn’t deter and won the custody! It was the year 2010 she adopted her second baby Alisah. Sushmita known as an outspoken lady,  stated, “I don’t need a man in my life to have diamonds. I can own them myself.” When she was being asked by media about her being single.

Yes! Born in 19th November 1975, Sush is 43 years old and happily single! We know the bold dusky beauty Sushmita. We know her as an actress and for receiving Filmfare award, but do we know about her humanitarian side? So here are some glimpses of her social work.

Sushmita’s statements at the ‘Miss Universe’ were not lightly stated, with adopting two girls herself, she runs an NGO named, ‘I AM Foundation’. The NGO where five renowned charity organizations are united and their slogan is ‘giving’.

This charitable organization works for the children and individuals suffering from mental handicapped.  It is associated with such disabilities from the last 67 years. And over the 67 years, the NGO has provided multidisciplinary services for 1,00,000 special children.

TERI

Another institute associated with the foundation is TERI (The Energy And Resource Institute). TERI deals with the future immense problems, humans will face. More than 200 Indian villages suffered from a cyclone in Myanmar were revived because of TERI.

This foundation works for the prevention against HIV and AIDS, through a high impact awareness campaign.

CPAA

This is charitable NGO that serves cancer patients across, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Nepal.

Except this, Sushmita also works alongside Salman Khan for being human charitable trust.  Sush is associated with Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, which emphasis on educating and enhancing the artistic talent of children. Sushmita says, “Educating the girl child falls in my list of priorities.” Sushmita, herself was Hindi medium student till 16 and then she mastered the English language.

Sushmita was awarded by renowned mother Teresa award for social justice in 2013. Sush tweeted with joy on Tweeter “What an overwhelming feeling to receive an award named after ‘Mother’ and with past recipients like his holiness Dalai Lama and Malala Yousafzai.”

Sushmita is an apt example of women empowerment and they say beauty with brain, but for her, it applies ‘beauty with a beautiful heart!’
