Beauty pageants have its traces from European Medieval era. The popular festival, May Day has been held and May queen would get selected on her beauty standards. The contest Beauty pageants is advanced from these events, where the beautiful young ladies participate from various countries. The winner titled as Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Earth gets chosen, based on their beauty, physical features, personalities, intelligence, talents or skills. The eventual round includes questions asked by judges, by judging all these aspects, panel of the judges select the winner, called as ‘beauty queen’, who gets to wear the crown!
The title has been achieved by some Indian beauty queens and made India proud! Let’s have a look at the Indian beauty queens who became Miss India and later crowned by the prestigious title Miss World and Miss Universe.
The first title achievement, among these Big Four events, was commenced by Sushmita Sen. Suhmita won renowned title ‘Miss Universe’ on 21st May 1994. She was first Indian to win this title. The title of Miss Universe at the age of 18, opened the door for her of the ‘Bollywood’, the Indian Hindi film industry. Later she has acted in Tamil and Bengali languages. Sushmita has been awarded by the ‘Filmfare award’ and for her social work. The another prestigious title she achieved is ‘Mother Teresa’ award. She has adopted two girls and is a proud single mother.
Consecutively, on 19th November 1994, Aishwarya Rai bagged the big title ‘Miss World’ ! The year 1994 became the successive year for India in this Big Four beauty pageant! Aishwarya Rai was also first Indian to win this big title. Aishwarya, too, followed the path of Sushmita Sen in the Bollywood and has a successful career as an actress, honored by two ‘Filmfare awards’ for her acting. Aishwarya is honored by renowned award ‘Padma Shri’ given by the Indian government. She has been awarded by ‘Odre Des Arts Et Des Lettres’ by the government of France in 2012. She is now known as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after her marriage.
The same glorified history was repeated in the year 2000 with Lara Dutta achieving the title of the ‘Miss Universe’ on 12th May 2000, and Priyanka Chopra achieving the title of the ‘Miss World’ on 30th November 2000! Lara Dutta had the title of ‘Miss Intercontinental’ in 1997 and she was pursuing the career of modeling. After Sushmita Sen, Lara has been the only representative from India to win this crown. Lara also has a career in Bollywood and won ‘Filmfare award’. Besides Bollywood or Hindi movies Lara Dutta has worked in Tamil movies too.
Priyanka Chopra, the well-known actress, who has global recognition as she starred in the Hollywood movie ‘Baywatch’ and Television series ‘Quantico’. Priyanka won the crown of ‘Miss World’ in the year 2000. She has achieved many prestigious awards, which include, National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards for five categories. The government of India has awarded her with most prestigious civilian award ‘Padma Shri’ in 2016. She is one of the highest paid actress in the Bollywood. The Time named her as one of the 100 most influential people in 2016.
Crowned as Femina Miss India 2014, Koyal Rana was among the last top ten ‘Miss World’ contestants in London. Later she was crowned Miss World Asia.
Manushi Chillar crowned by ‘Miss World’ title in 18th November, 2017 . Manushi with this honor became the sixth Indian woman to win this title. Manushi was CBSE topper in English subject in her 12th class. ‘The beauty with brain’ cleared NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) in her first attempt. she is currently pursuing MBBS (medical) degree. Manushi after winning the crown ‘Miss World,’ is now a brand ambassador of Malabar Gold and Diamonds’ jewelry brand. The time magazine named her as the ‘Times Most Desirable Woman’ of India 2017.
In the year 2018, Anukreethy Vas crowned Femina Miss India, also represented India in the ‘Miss World’ contest. She is from Tamil Nadu India and is model too.
